Class Descriptions
Technical classes follow a set syllabus. Instructors participate in ongoing professional development classes.
Baby Ballet
Age 2
An introduction to basic movement skills through songs, games and creative props. (Care-giver may assist child in the class).
Creative Movement
Age 3-4
An introduction to dance and basic movement skills through songs, games and creative props.
Primary Dance
Age 4-5
An introduction to ballet, jazz and tap.
Movers & Shakers / Movers & Groovers
Age 3-5
An introduction to hip hop, basic movement skills, creativity, expression, and musicality.
Ballet
Age 6+ (Mini, Kids, Teen, Competitive)
A technical class focusing on the art of classical ballet and incorporating elements of free movement and character. Ballet forms the foundation of all other dance disciplines and progressively develops students’ technical, musical and performance-based skills. PSDC follows the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Syllabus.
Jazz
Age 6+ (Mini, Kids, Teen, Competitive)
An energetic, technical class focusing on the art of traditional and contemporary jazz. Jazz is based on ballet technique and progressively develops students’ technical, musical and performance-based skills. PSDC follows the ADAPT syllabus.
Lyrical
Ages 8+ (Kids, Teen, Competitive)
A technical class based on ballet and jazz, connecting movement to lyrics and emotion.
Tap
Age 6+ (Mini, Kids, Teen, Competitive)
An upbeat, technical class focusing on the art of traditional and contemporary tap. Tap is based on intricate footwork and rhythm and progressively develops students’ technical, musical and performance-based skills. PSDC follows the ADAPT syllabus.
Hip Hop
Age 6+ (Mini, Kids, Teen, Competitive)
A dynamic, fun class focusing on hip hop and incorporating elements of pop music and urban choreography.
Musical Theatre
Age 8+
A fun interactive class exploring the songs and style of musicals and performing arts, incorporating elements of basic dance steps, acting, characterization, drama, and vocals.

90 Minute Class (Competitive)

Payment Process & Options:

Registration Fee: A one-time, non-refundable $25 (plus GST) registration fee is applied to each registration.

Payment Plan - 10 Instalments: An additional one-time, non-refundable $25 (plus GST) processing fee is added to monthly payment plans. First monthly payment is due at the time of enrollment, nine payments withdrawn each month, September, 2024 to May, 2025. When setting up payment online, the withdrawal date will be set by you. Payment methods accepted: When booking online, we accept credit card. If you require other payment methods, please contact us.

Late/NSF Fees: A $10.00 (plus GST), non-negotiable late fee will be charged for all overdue payments. The overdue payment including the late fee must be paid within two weeks. If you are unable to make a payment, please contact the directors five days prior to the billing date.
Dress Code
The dress code is mandatory for all classes. Students who are not dressed appropriately for class will participate at the discretion of the directors. Jewelry is not to be worn in class. PSDC does not assume liability for lost or stolen items. Please label belongings and leave valuables at home.

Baby Ballet, Creative Movement, Primary Dance: Light pink short sleeved leotard, light pink full footed tights, pink canvas or leather ballet shoes with elastic. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Ballet: Black sleeveless leotard, light pink full footed tights, pink canvas or leather split sole ballet shoes with elastic. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Jazz: Black sleeveless leotard, light pink full footed tights, black leather split sole slip on jazz shoes. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Lyrical: Black sleeveless leotard, light pink convertible tights, Capezio canvas half-sole shoes. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Tap: Black sleeveless leotard, light pink full footed tights, black leather lace up tap shoes. Hair must be worn in a neat bun.

Movers & Shakers, Movers & Groovers, Hip Hop: Tank top or t-shirt, leggings or sweatpants (no jeans), clean indoor, non-marking running shoes. Hair must be worn in a ponytail.

Musical Theatre: Black sleeveless leotard, black leggings, black leather split sole slip on jazz shoes. Hair must be worn in a neat bun or ponytail.

Boys: White t-shirt (no writing), black shorts or sweatpants, appropriate footwear for class.

Junior / Intermediate / Senior Competitive Ballet: Capezio Stretch Canvas Hanami ballet shoes with elastic are recommended.

Year-End Recital & Costumes
Year-End Recital
All classes will participate in the year-end recital. The goal of the dance program is for students to perform in a final celebration of the season, in a theatre setting, in front of a live audience. The recital will be held at the end of May at Jubilee Place Concert Hall at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute in Winnipeg or a similar venue. Generally, the dress rehearsal will be held during the morning of the show. Tickets will go on sale in the spring with prices to be determined.
Costumes

All dancers will require a costume for the year-end recital.

A $50.00 non-refundable costume deposit, per class is due November 15th, 2024 via e-transfer to info@prairiesouldancecompany.ca with your child's name and class in the notes.

The balance owing will be invoiced in the spring.

Recreational costumes will range from approximately $100.00 to $150.00, are subject to change and are a final sale.

Costume fees include the cost of the costume with exchange rate (costumes are ordered from an American costume company), taxes, shipping and handling, duties, fees, etc.
Policies

Absences: If students are unable to attend a class, please notify PSDC in advance.

Behaviour: Students are expected to demonstrate respectful behaviour. Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated.

Food and Drink: PSDC is a peanut-aware facility. A labelled water bottle may be brought into class.

News: Important information will be emailed. Families are responsible for checking email regularly and are encouraged to follow our social media pages.

Observation: Studios have observation windows to allow parents to view classes from the waiting area. Parents are not permitted in the studio unless necessary (example: to assist student in transitioning to the care of the instructor, etc.)

Programs: Entry into recreational programs is based on age. PSDC reserves the right to cancel, combine classes or provide a substitute teacher. PSDC reserves the right to deliver class content and programming online in the event that classes are not able to be conducted live and refunds will not be issued.

Publicity Release: Students and parents give consent to PSDC to publish photographs and videos for advertising, media and publicity purposes. All students may be photographed and filmed throughout the year and during our year-end recital.

Release of Liability: PSDC will not be held responsible for any physical injury related to dance which may be incurred during the dance season.

Weather Related Class Cancellations: Throughout the year, classes may be cancelled due to weather and poor driving conditions. In the event of inclement weather, an email will be sent out. PSDC will not call each family and refunds will not be issued for cancelled classes since tuition is set at a rate which allows for class cancellations throughout the season.

Withdrawal Deadline for Refunds: October 7th, 2024.

Withdrawal Process: Withdrawal policies are in effect from the moment a student’s registration is submitted. Withdrawal notices must be submitted to the attention of the directors. Withdrawal notices must include the date, name of the class/program from which the student is withdrawing and the reason for withdrawal. No refunds will be issued for classes that students have participated in.

Full refunds on tuition will be issued, with the exception of the registration fee.

A one-time, $25.00 (plus GST) withdrawal fee will be charged. Tuition for classes that students have participated in will be deducted from the payment made. The refund will be issued by e-transfer. Payments will be cancelled once the withdrawal notice has been received by the directors.
